email to Ray Stacy

Ray Stacy was born in Rutherford Co., NC in 1960. He began drawing when he was about 5 years old, after watching his grandmother Mamie draw a little picture of some birds and an apple tree. Ray took art in high school which interduced him to the different mediums. After high school he enrolled in a correspondence course in commercial art from Famous Artist School located in Westport Conn. But not really happy with that type of art he just started painting and found that wildlife art was what he wanted to do.

Ray likes to study his subjects and do drawings before painting them with acrylics on masonite panels for better detail. Ray has painted a lot of North America wildlife, but his favorite are songbirds.

Ray has had serveral one man art shows with the Rutherford Co. Arts Council and with The Tryon Fine Arts Center. He has sold his work since 1989, when he was with the Hickory Nut Gallery in Lake Lure. He has since sold in many other galleries over the years.

Ray has also won serveral awards for his paintings as well. Besides painting he also likes ink drawing and photography. He likes to take lots of reference photos for his work. He likes the way light plays on things and the texture of feathers, fur, tree bark, etc.

" I really love painting the natural world that God has created for us to enjoy, it's wonders are endless." ~ Ray Stacy
