LAURA HARRIS, fiber art

Laura Harris, a native of Rutherford County, is a talented artist whose interests span a multitude of traditional media. Always looking for an idea that will tell a story, since childhood she has searched for art whose outcome is pen-ended and suspensful. She is known for her work in an array of handmade fiber projects using clothing and linens with an emphasis on reclaimed or recycled materials.

Her concepts are carried over in whatever may "catch an eye", expressed in uniquely painted furniture, quilting, embroidery, decoupage, knitting, and canvas floor cloths. Laura is also an accomplished mural painter whose commissioned works are displayed in schools, churches, and private residences. Laura's work often has a touch of whimsy.

A woman of boundless energy, Laura is a gifted performance artist on the piano and organ. Laura has also taught classe in many of the forms in which she specializes.
