Allan Buitekant moved to North Carolina in the late 90’s from New York where he worked as an advertising creative executive at the historic Doyle,Dane,Bernbach which changed advertising history in the 50’s to the 80’s. His productivity there resulted in numerous awards including a Bronze Lion at Cannes.

 The creative knowledge absorbed in such a charged environment while at the same time working with such great artists as Richard Avedon along with studies of pottery at Greenwich House in New York City with Jim Crumrine, the Brooklyn Museum Art School with Jolyn Hofstead, the 92^nd. St.Y in New York City with Byron Temple and the Parson’s School of Design in New York City led to a unique understanding of creativity both in communication and clay.

While continuing his creative career in advertising he also devoted himself to pottery and showed at the historic America House in New York. He was honored as the only potter featured in the group show “White” at the Broadway Gallery in Soho in New York City in 2006, Allan is currently Artist in Residence at the prestigious Silver Fox Gallery in Hendersonville, North Carolina.. He has been invited to show his work at the winter show of the Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art.

When Allan lived in New York he studied Bonsai for many years with the internationally famous Master, Yuji Yoshimura, now deceased. A collection of 70 trees was created, some of which Yuji designated “Buitekant style” and was donated to the Bronx Botanical Gardens in 1994.
